Conflict

O Lord,
Do not let it rain today. Neither let it be too hot.
We have a family picnic.

I know the farmers pray for rain;
They sweat in fields and curse the clods. The crops stand wilting, drying.
Growers plan to feed the world.
O God, send rain, they pray.

O Lord
Hold the rain today,

so we can have a picnic.

-Rosemary Watts

Everyone has influence: teachers, moms, dads, lawyers, kids, entrepreneurs, physicians, custodians, students, volunteers, and the list goes on. The Global Leadership Summit challenges all of us to impact our spheres of influence with greater effectiveness and intention. Mark your calendars for Thursday and Friday, August 10 and 11.

University Church members will receive the special $89 rate by registering before July 11. Full-time Walla Walla University faculty, students, and staff are also entitled to that same pricing, even up until the day the summit begins!

Visit wwuchurch.com/gls2017 to register.

WORSHIP NOTE

We thank Gina Lincoln, a WWU junior majoring in engineering and voice, for sharing her singing talents with us, and Sam Derting for leading the band.

The great Dutch master, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562–1621), spent almost his entire career at the Oude Kirk (old church) in Amsterdam. He was known as the "organist builder" because of his remarkable skill as an organ teacher. One of the first great keyboard composers of Europe, he helped establish the North German organ tradition.

As you prepare to worship, I invite you to meditate on the words of our hymns. Some of the first hymn is given here:

Let all on earth their voices raise,
To sing the great Jehovah’s praise,
And bless His holy name:
His glory let the people know,

His wonders to the nations show,
His saving grace proclaim.

-Kraig Scott
