“If we’re going to impact our world in the name of Jesus, it will be because people like you and me took action in the power of the Spirit. Ever since the mission and ministry of Jesus, God has never stopped calling for a movement of “Little Jesuses” to follow Him into the world and unleash the remarkable redemptive genius that lies in the very message we carry. Given the situation of the church in the west, much will now depend on whether we are willing to break out of a stifling herd instinct and find God again in the context of the advancing kingdom of God.”

WORSHIP NOTE

We thank the talented and hard working students of I Cantori for sharing their music, including accompanist Siena Mirasol, a junior from Portland. In the postlude we also thank our new music department chair, Cristian Neacsu, who plays violin.

The first anthem is a setting of Psalm 81:1-3, "Sing aloud to God our strength...." The anthem prior to the sermon includes several soloists: Gina Lincoln, soprano, and a quartet consisting of Rilla Taylor, Alexa Davidson, Jonathan Singer, and Andrew Gonzalez. This work is from the oratorio Passion and Resurrection by the talented Estonian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds. The section we sing begins with Christ’s agony in Gethsemane and ends with the suicide of Judas. As you prepare your heart to worship, I invite you to meditate on the words, most of which derive from the biblical text.

My soul is very sorrowful, even to death.
My Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. (Matthew 26:38, 42)

My friend betrayed me by the token of a kiss:
Whom I shall kiss, that is he hold him fast!
That was the wicked token which he gave,
Who by a kiss accomplished murder.
Unhappy man,
he relinquished the price of blood,
And in the end hanged himself.
How great is thy love for mankind, O Lord!
Thou bent down and washed Judas’ feet, although he denied and betrayed thee!

-Kraig Scott

Fellowship Hall Chairs: We are delighted to have Circle Church, a student-led service, in the Fellowship Hall every Saturday. It brings us immense joy to witness more than 300 students worshipping Jesus. It is our goal to pray, encourage and support this growing body of students. It has been brought to our attention that there is a need for more chairs to accommodate this group. Therefore, we would like to purchase an additional 100 chairs at approximately $20 each for the Fellowship Hall. Additionally, our ultimate goal is to replace the current 270 chairs with more modern, comfortable, and sturdier chairs. Currently, $1,000 is pledged towards this total project. Will you join us in this meaningful work? If you feel moved to give, please mark it on your tithe envelope or check. Thank you! -The Pastoral Staff
