“The answer—given again and again in the New Testa- ment—is that the transformation

we are promised at the end of time has already be- gun in Jesus. When God raised Him from the dead,

He launched His entire project of new creation, and called people of all sorts to be part of that project, already, here and now. And that means that the steps we take toward the ultimate goal—the things which make sense of Christian living in what might otherwise be a long interval between initial faith and nal salvation— already partake of that same character of transformation.”

MUSIC NOTE

As promised, we have the pleasure of hearing
Julie Penner once more while she and Doug are
still here visiting family. Join me in thanking her for singing again before returning to her teaching duties at Southern Adventist University. We also thank sophomore Paris Altman for leading the praise band

Both vocal anthems derive from Baroque composers. Just a year before his premature death, Henry Purcell (1659– 1695) composed “Sound the Trumpet” to a text written by Nahum Tate (1652–1715). Born into

a family of clergymen, Nahum instead became a poet, hymnist, and, in 1692, England’s poet laureate. “Sound the Trumpet” was first performed at a service in honor of Queen Mary II of England’s birthday. The second anthem, by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681–1767), forms part of an Advent cantata entitled “Open Wide the Door.” As you prepare to worship, I invite you to meditate on the text given here:

Jesu, come and fill my spirit,
let it be Thy dwelling place. Drive from it the dust of sin, Glory, lust and earthy gain; Grant it Thy great light of grace. Jesu, come and fill my spirit,

let it be Thy dwelling place.

GIVE

The University Church budget funds many important aspects of our local ministry. Although pastors' salaries are funded by donations marked "tithe", the University Church budget is what subsidizes our amazing K-12 school programs at Walla Walla Valley Academy and Rogers Adventist School. It also makes our worship services and broadcast ministry possible. Thank you for your generous and systematic support!

As always - we welcome your gifts made right here on our website. Click Here to Give!
